2023-2024 AWJRGBB 7th-8th Rec Basketball

Welcome

2023-2024 AWJRGBB 7th-8th Grade Rec Basketball

This program is designed to introduce boys and girls to basketball who are currently enrolled in 7th through 8th grade and live in the Anthony Wayne School District and surrounding areas. This league extends from November to February, offers one practice/week, and 8 game regular season, and post season tournament. Our volunteer parent coaches use the philosophies from our high school basketball programs to develop the skills necessary to play the game of basketball throughout the season -- dribbling, shooting, rebounding, passing, screening and defense. Focusing on the basics and applying them to a game setting is to prepare them for the organized basketball that continues into 9th grade.

PLAYERS CLINIC

Sunday November 12, 2023 at the Anthony Wayne High School Gyms
1:00pm-2:00pm Open Gym Session/Player Clinic

**Coaches meeting to occur at 2:00pm after clinic**

During this time, players will come in for an open gym session lead by our high school coaching staff that focus on the fundamentals of the game. This is free to all those who have registered for the program. If your child cannot attend, they will still be placed on a team. **This takes place after JH Boys Basketball Try-outs. Players will know if they made the AWJH team by November 7th.**

Team Assignment

Players are drafted onto teams during the coaches meeting on Sunday November 12th and notified of their team assignment no later than Wednesday November 15th prior to the first day of practice.

7th and 8th graders will be placed on the same teams.

Note: We must have at least 28 kids registered for the program to have a season. If not enough players have registered, player fees will be refunded.

Practice Schedule

Practices are eligible to start the week of November 13th if decided upon by the coach and continue through season end in February.

Each team gets one practice per week at one of our local schools -- Waterville Primary, Whitehouse Primary, Monclova Primary, or Fallen Timbers Middle School. Coaches are responsible for selecting the practice time during the coaches meeting on November 12th.

**Note: There are no practices if there is no school including Holiday breaks, parents teacher conferences, and snow days.**

League Schedule
Games are played on Saturdays December 2, 9, 16, and January 6, 13, 27. Typically, boys will play on Saturday afternoons. Each team will get 8 games in the regular 6 week long season.

Season Tournament will be hosted on February 3rd. Tournament will have 2 guaranteed games within the day.

Program Fees
$160/Player (First Child)
$130/Player (Any Additional Children)

Program fees include a reversible game jersey for each player, skills clinic, team practice balls, team first aid kits, certified referees, admission, administrative dues, insurance-liability coverage, coaches background checks, and facility rental fees.

League Admission

In addition to the costs mentioned above, there are additional administrative costs and, more importantly, this is a primary fundraiser for the AW High School Boys and Girls Basketball programs. We utilize proceeds from admission to help support their programs. Our high school coaching staff is available throughout the season to all our volunteer coaches to help share philosophies, practice plans, and game strategy. Every weekend, you will see our high school basketball players helping with admissions, the score table, and officiating.
